NEW Mockingbird Duet Print

blogspot
This long, cold, blizzard-y winter's been getting to me lately, so I painted up a Springtime Mockingbird Duet that I'll be using as a new mailer for art directors. It's also available as a signed 12" x 18" print in my Etsy shop here.

Original UNBORED Art Sale on Etsy

UOE2 Thursday January 10th at 10am I'm going to start listing the original 11" x 14" drawings I created for UNBORED, the 350-page bestselling childrens' book for Bloomsbury, in my Etsy shop here. Earlier this week I realized I've got an 8.5 lb. box of UNBORED drawings sitting in my closet, and it'd be better if they lived on people's walls instead of sitting in the dark. If you love UNBORED, now's your chance to own a piece of the book! I'll be listing more in my Etsy shop every Thursday morning from now on, too. UEO1

Rest in Peace, Mr. Giles

blogspot

Our beloved Mr. Giles passed away October 18th. This one-eyed Hurricane Katrina refugee endured many hardships but he was always a happy, hilarious, enthusiastic friend. Sheila, Frankenstein, and I miss him terribly. The unexpected loss is hard to accept, but I'm comforted in knowing he had a long, fun life, surrounded by those who adored him. I like to think of him now, cataract-free, glaucoma-free, arthritis-free, spazzing out in sunny fields with two good eyes and his big happy smile.

I was so lucky to have had you in my life for so long, little crazyman, and I can't wait to squeeze you again someday.

UNBORED About to Hit Bookshelves!!!

LCSfrank2

I recently received my complimentary copy of UNBORED, and am really thrilled with the final product. The book hits shelves October 16th in the United States and a revised edition for the UK is in the works.

I created over 365 illustrations for this 352-page hardcover, written by Joshua Glenn & Elizabeth Foy Larsen, designed by Anthony Leone, co-illustrated by Heather Kasunick, and published by Bloomsbury. Anthony, Heather, and I were all friends and classmates at Massachusetts College of Art & Design in the early 90s, and Anthony hired me to do some freelance illustrations for Josh's excellent zine, Hermenaut, about 10 years ago as well.

This big book represents a significant chunk of our lives, and was a real treat to work on!!! It's available for pre-order here.
Yesterday it cracked Amazon.com's Top 10 Best Seller's List in the Family Activity category!!!

Mister Reusch Monster Drawing: "Orange Reaper", 13 minute pose.

Since 2006 I've been running "Monster Drawing" sessions at Massachusetts College of Art & Design, where instead of a nude model, life-drawing students draw a real, live MONSTER. I play guitar for 2 hours in homemade monster masks & costumes, with my eyes closed because I can't see my hands and the sweat stings my eyeballs. I'm self-taught & play by ear, so there are always mistakes, but it's fun! Sheila recorded me so that non-MassArt folks can do Monster Drawing from their own homes, watching on their computers. Amazing former student Anthony Feliciano already poster his Monster Drawing, shown here

Long time, no posts. I've finally finished a ton of illustrations for a children's book project I started working on over a year ago. The book comes out this November from Bloomsbury, and I owe designer Tony Leone and author Josh Glenn a huge thank you for hiring me.

Some New Stuff
Long time, no updatey! My broken right hand is healed up, & I've been trying hard to catch up with commissions I owe clients. And my good friend Tony Leone from MassArt has hired me to create between 200-300 illustrations for a cool book he's designing! Things are busybusybusy. I'm still unpacking in the new apartment & getting back on track after moving 3 times at the end of 2010, but things are awesome.

5 outstanding MassArt seniors named Cherry Au, Ivan Cheung, Amanda Lo, Jill Lydon, & Carly Menasco put on a really fun exhibit called "the Cute Show" featuring personal drawings, paintings, sculptures, and more. I painted them little "CONGRATULATIONS!!!!" cards for the opening reception:

Speaking of cute, Frankensteiny recovered from 2 lump removal surgeries (both benign), one on his leg, and one on his inner eyelid that required very intricate stitches:

He was his usual spazzy self within a day of the surgeries. And Mr. Giles luckily healed up fast after scratching his cornea:

I'm going to try to post way more often from now on!
